If you’ve ever felt hopeless about meditation and prayer because you can’t stop hurting, you just don’t feel like it; or you are angry at God, angry at your life or angry at other “christians”, then I’ve got something VERY important for you…
Lose the shame and the guilt FIRST and the meditations and prayers will gradually return. It’s true. And it’s really the ONLY way to LIVE LIFE without giving up!
As an ordained minister, for twenty-nine years, I’ve served as Pastor of the Arts at some of the most influential mega-churches in the world. But I’ve got a BIG confession.
Six years ago I felt like a total failure. I was exhausted, hurt and angry. I was disillusioned about religion and felt as if I was wandering aimlessly through life. Thankfully I finally discovered a way to meditate and pray.
It’s about letting go of shame and stress, and Feeding Your Soul instead. Turns out there’s a real spiritual need to utter private unspoken requests.
This little book (the first of ten to come) gives you the ability to SPEAK the words you have been afraid to utter. Words of meaning and life.
An old book of prayers similar in scope helped me gradually start a rhythm of contemplation again. But most of the prayers were self-deprecating and reminiscent of my empty, angry and legalistic religious past. I found myself completely rewriting them to express my heart, my internal consciousness, and my deepest, most honest feelings.
I hope this collection of simple but heartfelt prose helps you as much as they’ve helped me.
“For prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.” —Saint Teresa of Avila
Unspoken Requests Meditations Prayers for the Wounded Wandering Book 1 edition by Randy Elrod Religion Spirituality eBooks
Individuals, particularly those who risk, who lead, who create in the living out of our beliefs in ministry too often see up close and personally the best and the hardest of humanity in daily life. The ease staying in faith is harder when those you serve are often those who attack you directly for the very engaging of that which brought you to them. Unspoken Requests shares the languaging of the hurting, the seeking of the steadfast even when the path is no longer clear. Randy again risks sharing openly that which is too often a closed conversation held within. The conversation of the expressions of the meditations alone bring an open invitation to join the community of we who are often alone with our pain, but not alone in the experience. May the dialogues that this book opens continue to bring hope and restoration of peace to those who read it.Product details

Unspoken Requests Meditations Prayers for the Wounded Wandering Book 1 edition by Randy Elrod Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Most of us were raised on standardized prayers like The Lord's Prayer or Psalm 23. Unfortunately we have recited them so often that we fail to really think about the words or the deeper meaning of the prayers. More importantly, the prayers we most often say do not really capture our feelings and emotions.
In today's complex and troubling society, it is very rare to meet anyone who has not been wounded or left wandering.
The wounded and wandering often do not connect with the traditional prayers and meditations used in churches or prayer books. Traditional prayers and meditations do not seem to fit our needs.
Randy Elrod, author of Unspoken Request, certainly qualifies as having been wounded and left wandering. Some would be quick to judge and say that he is the creator of his own wounds. To those I would remind to study John 87.
Randy has provided some very heartfelt prayers and meditations. These are not to be read or recited quickly. The value is in studying them, in contemplating the feelings and emotions that come up as you study the prayers. Randy does not shy away from asking tough questions. In the prayer Invisible Promises, he writes, "I question everything; I do not delight in this pitiful caricature called life;"
He closes this meditation with, "Give me confidence in Your promises, tho the day is sliver, black sad and quiet."
Most people will be able to relate to these prayers. Most people have doubts, have seen trouble and despair in life, have had their faith tested and are looking for answers. Mr. Elrod does not promise answers or quick fixes. The prayers and meditations are the thoughts and feelings we have all had - the questions we have asked and the answers we seek.
These prayers and meditations will give you comfort in the fact that you are not alone - that others have walked the same road, have tussled with the same thoughts and issues. You will need to study these prayers. Become aware of the feelings the prayers bring up for you. Be okay with them.
These are unspoken because most people have experienced them but have been afraid to openly acknowledge them. You might not find yourself in all the prayers, but if you are honest you will find yourself in many.
The prayers and meditations are petitions. They are not answers. The solace is in being able to openly connect with these Unspoken Requests.
I was provided a review copy of this book.
Just got it. "The Light of Love" has already struck a "sympathetic sound" like holding down High C on the piano and quickly striking Middle C, only to hear High C because of the sympathetic overtones. I am touched!
